Curaçao's Tropical Beaches
Beach, sea, palm trees, sunbeds, umbrellas, Curaçao is known for its
beautiful beaches. White sandy beaches with
swaying palm trees, crystal
clear blue water and good weather all
year round. During your holiday,
you naturally want to experience the
most beautiful beaches on the Caribbean island. Can you see
yourself sitting there with a tropical
cocktail in hand?
Columbus was the first to cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1492 with 3 sailing ships, in search of a faster sea route to the
Indies. He discovered land after 3 weeks of sailing, which he named the West Indies, believing (supposing) that he had arrived in India.
The
original inhabitants of
America were therefore called INDIANS. Alonso de Ojeda discovered Aruba, Bonaire and
Curaçao in 1499 during an expedition to South America. The
navigator of this expedition
was Amerigo Malteo Vespucci,
America is named after him.
Vespucci has left
behind a travel story, which allows us
to find out (rediscover) the route. Ojeda and Vespucci
lost sight of each other during the
crossing to South America.
Via Trinidad, Venezuela and Bonaire, Vespucci ended up in Curaçao. The explorers
saw large footprints on the island. They
followed the trail and eventually
came across five women, who had a firm demeanor. Vespucci initially called the island
(originally) "the island of the giants".
Curaçao is so named (registered) on the first map of the west.
There are several
theories as to how Curaçao got its name. It is possible that the Indian tribe was called
"Curaçaos". Curaçao means 'heart' in Portuguese. This is also a well-known explanation.
